Where are the games played?
Castro Valley NJB is currently utilizing the Castro Valley High School and local middle schools for all home games. We play road games against other local NJB chapters. These games are generally played in Fremont, Hayward and Union City.
What days are the games played on?
All games are played on Sundays
Do teams have to travel to another city to play games?
Yes, we travel to several schools in the East Bay. Enrollment numbers fluctuate year to year and the teams generally are required to travel to a neighboring city to compete and play. In the past our teams have traveled to Fremont and Hayward. All Net teams are considered to be travel teams and will be travel throughout the East Bay, Palo Alto, San Jose and possibly into neighboring counties as well.
When & Where are practices held?
The coach chooses practice times and places, as they have volunteered their time to teach the kids to play basketball. Some coaches will practice weekdays at schools in Castro Valley, San Leandro and San Lorenzo, generally between 5 pm and dark. Some coaches will hold a Saturday practice. Castro Valley NJB allows no more than two practices a week.
What happens if my child does not attend the mandatory evaluation date?
If your child does not attend the mandatory evaluation date in early October, they may still be placed on a team. However, they will not be available for the coaches to select during the regular draft because the coaches will not have a rating for your child. Ratings are given to each child at evaluation during the various skill stations that the players participate in. Any child who does not attend the mandatory evaluation will be placed on a team by "hat pick" after the evaluated players have been drafted.
How do I volunteer to help?
Thank you! You will find that volunteering is a rewarding experience and that we offer many areas in which you may volunteer your time, skills and/or experience. Please contact citydirector@cvnjb.com if you would like to volunteer or have any questions about volunteering with our league.
How many games do we play?
Winter league is considered our regular season of play, running from the first Sunday in December and going to the end of March. Divisions I, II & III will play a total of 10 games with a regional tournament after. The All-Net regular season also starts on the first Sunday in December through the end of March. All-Net teams play 12 to 14 games during the regular season with regional playoffs at the end of the season. The High School regular season starts on the second Sunday in December through the middle of March. The High School teams play a total of 10 to 12 games during the regular season with regional playoffs at the end of the season.
What is included in my registration fee?
All players receive a uniform consisting of a jersey and shorts, picture package, 10 games for divisional players, 12 to 14 games for All-Net players, 10 to 12 games for High School players, player insurance and all gym time.
How many minutes will my child play in each game?
Player participation in the divisional program is strictly enforced so that all players are guaranteed playing time. Each player in divisional play is required to play two full periods and sit one full period of each game. The game is divided into periods rather than quarters to allow for this. Each game consists of 5 eight minute periods, with the intent that player participation requirements are met by the end of the 4th period and the Coach will be able to do free substitution at their discretion during the 5th period.
There is no mandatory player participation rule in our All Net and High School programs since these are competitive teams. Playing time is at the discretion of the Coaches at the competitive level, however; we strongly encourage our coaches to make sure that all players do receive playing time in each game.
Can my child be placed on the same team as their friends?
It is possible to request a carpool request, but there is no guarantee that this will happen. Players are ranked on their skill level at Evaluation Day. The only players that are frozen for any team are the Head and Assistant Coaches children and they are frozen at their ranking in the draft. This is designed to promote parity among all teams in each division. If you request that your child be placed on the same team as a friend we will make a notation so that the coaches will be aware of your request during our player draft. There is no guarantee that your child will be placed on the team with their friend.
